Prepare for the journey
Don’t forget to prep your vehicle.
Long weekend plans?
Let’s start with:
- tire pressure
- tread
- headlights
- brake lights
- windshield wipers
- and fluids
Here’s some information for the journey ahead!
Checks:
Start by checking your tire pressure and tread; remember, tire pressure can fluctuate with temperature, so it’s wise to take a look. Ensure your headlights and brake lights are functioning properly, and don’t neglect your windshield wipers.
Fluids:
Top off your fluids to keep everything running smoothly on the road. If it’s been a while since your last oil change, consider getting it done before hitting the road.
Take a moment for a common-sense check—do your own test drive. Be extra aware while driving before your trip and ensure everything feels just right.
What’s else?
Now, let’s talk about the unexpected. A great idea is to pack an emergency kit for peace of mind. Easy items to include are gloves, hats, a warm blanket, a first aid kit, booster cables, reflective triangles, bottled water, granola bars, a small shovel, and a flashlight (crank-powered ones are fantastic since they don’t rely on batteries). As winter approaches, think about adding a few more essentials (like sand or kitty litter for traction if you get stuck).
A car safety emergency kit also makes a thoughtful gift for loved ones planning their own trips.
Drive safely, and make the most of the great outdoors!
